MAXIMUM ACQUIRES INTERNATIONAL RIGHTS TO SUNDANCE 2008
GRAND JURY PRIZE-WINNING DOCUMENTARY ‘TROUBLE THE WATER’

NEW YORK, NY, February 6, 2008 – Toronto-based Maximum, an international films sales company, announced today that the company has acquired all rights outside of North America and Africa to the Sundance 2008 Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary, TROUBLE THE WATER, directed by Tia Lessin and Carl Deal. The film played to critical and audience acclaim at the festival this past January, with the film’s pregnant subject Kim Roberts giving birth to her first child in Park City, Utah while there to support the film.

In TROUBLE THE WATER, aspiring rap artist Kim and her streetwise husband Scott show what survival is all about when they are trapped in New Orleans by deadly floodwaters, and then seize a chance for a new beginning. Directed by longtime Michael Moore collaborators Lessin and Deal, and executive produced by Louverture Films co-founders Danny Glover and Joslyn Barnes, TROUBLE THE WATER features an original musical score by Neil Davidge and Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack, and the music of Dr. John, Mary Mary, Citizen Cope, John Lee Hooker, and the Free Agents Brass Band and introducing Black Kold Madina.

“Maximum is fortunate to have acquired this award-winning and inspirational film, and to be able to work with such talented filmmakers as Tia Lessin and Carl Deal. We were incredibly moved by TROUBLE THE WATER’s inspiring message and the uplifting true story and courage of Kim and Scott Roberts,” says Head of Maximum Charlotte Mickie.

"We are so happy to have Charlotte Mickie and Maximum partnering with us on international sales for TROUBLE THE WATER. Charlotte has a passionate commitment to independent filmmakers and their films, and an unbeatable track record. We know that she and Maximum will ensure that our film reaches its optimum global audience,” says producer/directors Deal and Lessin.
