AFRICA UNITE – SPECIAL WORK-IN-PROGRESS SCREENING

The 14th annual New York African Film Festival hosted a special work-in-progress screening of the “Africa Unite feature” documentary on April 7th. Speakers included Film Society of Lincoln Center Director Richard Peña, AFF director Mahen Bonetti, Africa Unite executive producer Danny Glover, and producer/director Stephanie Black, who introduced the film.

Dudley Thompson, one of the world’s leading Pan-Africanist intellectuals and a distinguished barrister who defended Jomo Kenyatta during the Mau Mau trials in Kenya, spoke on the importance of Pan-Africanism and African unity.

Donisha Prendergast, carrying the torch passed to her by grandparents Bob and Rita Marley, spoke about the Africa Unite Foundation and its important objectives.

KyMani Marley set the tone with a moving rendition of “Redemption Song”, and the Ethiopian World Federation Drummers, joined by Mrs. Rita Marley, closed out the evening with “Conquering Lion of Judah” and the Ethiopian National Anthem.
